Scotty’s Rescue/Rehabilitation Centre, operated by Because ALL Children Matter (BACM), provides a safe home and pathway to independence for women and children experiencing homelessness, poverty, trafficking, abuse, HIV/AIDS-related vulnerability, incarceration and other difficult circumstances.
Located outside Nairobi, Scotty’s is designed to keep mothers and children together while providing the safety, stability, care and support they need to rebuild their lives.

The door revolves
When one woman and her children successfully transition into independent living, another family in need can take their place.
No fixed time limit
There is no fixed time limit on a resident’s stay. Healing and rebuilding a life cannot be measured by a calendar. Women can remain at Scotty’s as long as they are actively working toward their healing, personal development and independence.
Ready before she leaves
Before leaving, BACM works with each woman to help secure employment or an income-generating opportunity and safe, affordable housing, so she has a realistic foundation for independence and is not simply returned to the streets.
What we provide
Our programs include:
Building a sustainable future
Scotty’s is being developed to become increasingly self-sustainable, reducing long-term dependence on donations. Our sustainability projects include:
Water
Our well will provide water for the Centre while creating income through community water sales.
Agriculture
One acre is dedicated to growing vegetables and food crops for residents, with surplus produce sold locally.
Livestock
Goats, chickens, turkeys and other livestock will provide food, milk, eggs and income through sales.
Solar energy
Future solar installation will reduce operating costs and provide reliable energy.
Volunteer program
International volunteer programs provide valuable support while contributing toward Centre operations.
More than a shelter
Scotty’s is not designed simply to provide a temporary bed. It is a pathway from survival to independence.
Our goal is for every woman who leaves Scotty’s to have the skills, confidence, employment or income and safe housing she needs to build a sustainable future for herself and her children.
The door revolves, but the mission continues.
