Volunteer helping Women in Prison in Kenya
On this very unique program, you will volunteer directly inside a Women’s Prison in Kenya. You will assist women in learning English and key life skills like budgeting, business startup, and business management to help prepare them for a self-sustainable future.
Between 70% and 80% of women in prison in Kenya are incarcerated for petty crimes, primarily child neglect—often when a mother must leave her child alone to find food. Your role is safe, supported by prison guards at all times, and focuses on helping these women build a dignified future outside.
Who can join
- ✓Knowledge of basic life skills, budgeting, and preparing for a new life
- ✓Have an open mind and accept these women as human beings without judgment
- ✓Be prepared to commit to a minimum of 4 weeks volunteering
- ✓Be self-motivated, empathetic, and goal-oriented
Our goal
Our goal is to help these women become self-sustainable when they complete their sentence and start a new life on the outside.
We want them to gain practical life skills to work and support their families so that they do not return to prison.

A typical day
You will not live in the prison—you will only visit for 4 hours a day, Monday through Friday. A typical volunteer day looks like this:
